Few places embrace Christmas quite like New York City.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree may be the city's most recognizable holiday tradition, but it's only the beginning. Fifth Avenue storefronts transform into elaborate holiday displays, Bryant Park becomes a winter village, holiday markets pop up throughout Manhattan, and Christmas decorations seem to appear around every corner.
You can ice skate beneath the city skyline, see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, wander through Central Park on a crisp winter morning, shop for gifts at holiday markets, or simply walk through Manhattan after dark to see the lights.

For 2026, Mystic's holiday calendar includes its annual Lighted Boat Parade, bringing the season right onto the water.
Families can also combine the holiday festivities with Mystic's year-round attractions, including Mystic Seaport Museum and Mystic Aquarium, which makes this one of the easier destinations on the list to enjoy with children even if the weather doesn't cooperate.

The centerpiece is Wassail Weekend, scheduled for December 11–13, 2026. The annual celebration includes holiday markets, concerts, horse-drawn wagon rides, a horse parade and festivities at Billings Farm & Museum.
